  1. What would cause me to get an error message that reads "Communication S Error" when I try to write tables to the TCS?

The most common cause of this problem is trying to write tables to the Baumannator when the TCS is not powered. In order for the circuitry in the TCS that writes the information to the chip to work it must be powered. If the TCS is properly installed in a vehicle, then power will be provided when the vehicle's ignition switch is in the run posision.

If the TCS is not in a vehicle you will need to power it with an AC or DC adapter. You can purchase the power adapter from us, or make one with parts from Radio Shack.

One other common cause for this error is an improperly connected 9 pin cable. The 9 pin cable needs to be connected to the TCS, and the Computer, and be a straight through cable. Some 9 pin cables have pins that are swapped from one end to the other, for example pin three on one end may be pin 5 on the other end. The TCS requires a cable that has the same pinout from end to end.

If you are using a USB to 9 pin adapter you may have a problem with the installation automatically choosing too high of a com port number. We now have a page that shows you how to change the com port assigned to your USB adapter on our website.

  2. Are there any updates available for the TCS tuning software?

The only software update that has been made is to allow the TCS to work with the 1998 and later Digital Range Sensors. If your transmission is 1997 and earlier there is no benefit to using the newer software, however the latest software will work for all TCS models. You can download the latest TCS software below.

  4. How do I install and run the Baumannator TCS tuning software?

To install the software (version 2a from 12-01 on), insert the disk into your 3.5” drive and double-click the my computer icon. Next double-click the 3.5” floppy drive. You should see one file on the disk named TCS2a.exe. Double-click the TCS2a.exe file, and an extraction window titled Baumannator TCS Software Installer should appear. Click finish in the extraction window. If you see a prompt asking “Create C:\TCS Directory?” click yes. The extraction process will begin. After the extraction process is complete you will see a prompt that says “Extraction completed”; Click OK. Now a window should open with an icon labeled TCS Tuning Software. Double-clicking this icon will start the TCS tuning software. A program group should also be created in the start menu called Baumannator TCS / TCS Tuning Software.

If you have an earlier software version (1k or 2a before 12-01) then it will not automatically create a program group or open a window with the icon to start the tuning software. The file on the disk will either be TCS1, TCS2 or TCS2a. Double clicking the file will open an extraction window, and you will need to click extract. Next reply OK to create the TCS directory. After the extraction process is complete you will need to double-click the my computer icon, double click the C: drive, and double-click the TCS Folder. Once in the TCS folder look for the green icon labeled trans1k or trans2a. Double-clicking this icon will start the TCS tuning Software.

Without being there we cannot make a perfect calibration for your application, however we can give you a very good starting point if you supply us with information about your combination. 7. I've been looking on your site for the TCS Tuning Tips Document without any luck. Did this document not make the move from the old web site? Please point me in the correct direction, thank you.

This document actually never got finished. While working on it I decided to go in a different direction and do a tuning guide made for the website that had screenshots. If you would like you can see the text version of the TCS Tuning Tips that the online tuning guide will be based on.
