  1. What automatic overdrive transmission would fit on an FE big block 352 V-8 engine in my Ford F100?

  2. I am planning to put a 1984 Ford 302 with an AOD-E transmission in my pickup project. I am getting rid of the computer and electronics and changing it out to a carb unit. Can I use the AOD-E the way it is or do I need a conversion for it. If a conversion needed, your suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  3. I have a 91 ford bronco with a 5.0. I also have an E4OD transmission. I really want a manual conversion, and am interested in an M5OD. I have a donor F-150 that has the inline six, with the M5OD. Ihave done all the research to do the install, and I am very anxious. How will the computer accept the M5OD? I know the E4OD is computer controlled, what should I do to make this work correctly?

  4. I have an 88 e350 460ci with a 3 speed auto and wish to add an overdrive. What are my options?

  5. Ford installed some factory overdrives on some late 70's F350's with a C6 Tranny and 460ci. Can this overdrive unit be removed and installed on to a C6 on a 1970 F250 with a 360ci FE?

  1. What automatic overdrive transmission would fit on an FE big block 352 V-8 engine in my Ford F100?

Unfourtunately Ford never produced any overdrive transmission with the FE Bolt pattern. The only way to make this swap is by adapting the FE bolt pattern to a small block Ford bolt pattern using an adapter like the ones available from Bendsten's Transmission Adapters.

I'm assuming the AOD-E is from another vehicle. If the transmission you have was originally mated to the 84 engine it would be the AOD. To get the AODE to work with the carburetor you will need the Baumannator TCS and you will need to retrofit a TPS to the carburetor.

I can't really help you with the manual conversion, however I can tell you that if you have a gasoline powered engine that disconnecting the E4OD will cause driveability problems with the engine.

The E4OD is the only overdrive transmission Ford ever made in the 385 series big block bolt pattern. It is electronically controlled and will require our Baumannator TCS to operate in your vehicle. It was first used in 1989, and was available behind the 460 from 1989 to 1997. Some early 1998 vehicles may also have the E4OD. Also be advised that the C6 was an option for these trucks as well up to 1996, so always verify that the truck you are looking at does have the overdrive transmission. The 460 gets replaced by the 6.8 V10 around 1997-98. The V10 bolt pattern transmission won't bolt to your 460 so you definitely won't be able to use a transmission from 1998 and up trucks.

From every reference I have, and have ever seen Ford never installed an OD unit behind the C6 from the factory. There are companies that make an OD unit that bolt to the back of a C6, but from everything I have found the factory never did it. There are some manual transmissions that Ford used this strategy on from the factory like the T-85N, but I don't know of them ever doing this on any automatic. My recommendation would be to retrofit to the E4OD using our transmission controller. The E4OD is a very good transmission when rebuilt with the latest hard parts. The E4OD provides a 30% overdrive and programable shift point with the Baumannator TCS transmission controller. You will probably still come out cheaper than buying a gear vendor OD unit for your C6 which would only offer a 22% overdrive ratio.
