  2. What is the best fluid temperature for an automatic transmission?

  3. My torque converter clutch solenoid is having troubles can i still drive?

  4. My 2002 Ford Ranger rolls backward when on a fairly good hill. I thought automatic transmissions were supposed to hold it. The dealer claims there is nothing wrong with it, but other vehicles do not roll on the same hill.

  5. Can a transmission go out without any warning?

  6. I have a 1995 Lincoln Town car. Built in June 1995 What transmission do I have. I want to order some transmission parts from you. Thank you

  7. I have a 2002 Mazda B2300 2 wheel drive. My o/d off light in the dash started flashing and my transmission started slipping in overdrive/drive. I can still drive in 2 and 1 gears. I changed the fluid, it was brown but not too bad nor was there any metal shavings in the pan. I also put new pan gasket on. No leaks anywhere, but o/d off light is still flashing and still slips in overdrive/drive gear. Can you please tell me whats going on. Thanks.

  8. What would happen if I installed the wrong filter kit in my transmission, and please tell me this is the reason that it is not shifting correctly...Thanks.

  9. I have a 97 ford 150 truck 4x4 auto trans after you drive for a while the push button overdrive on and off switch starts blinking off continusously. what could cause this.

  10. HOW DO YOU TELL IF THE TRANSMISSION IS A E4OD OR A4R70W? THERE IS A (U) UNDER TRANS ON THE TRUCK SAFETY COMPLIANCE CERTIFICATION LABEL. THANKS

  1. How do I clear transmission trouble codes on my Ford EECIV?

Disconnect the battery negative for 20 to 30 minutes.

  2. What is the best fluid temperature for an automatic transmission?

If you could keep your fluid at 140°F that would be ideal. Most transmission fluid works best at this temperature. In actual application keeping the temperature this low is difficult. Try to keep your fluid temp below 190°F. If it gets to 230°F or higher for any period of time you should start looking for a place to pull over and park for a while.

  3. My torque converter clutch solenoid is having troubles can i still drive?

In most cases you can, but keep in mind if your torque converter is slipping or not engaging due to the problem the transmission will run hotter than normal, and can overheat.

  4. My 2002 Ford Ranger rolls backward when on a fairly good hill. I thought automatic transmissions were supposed to hold it. The dealer claims there is nothing wrong with it, but other vehicles do not roll on the same hill.

This is mainly a function of the torque converter. The design of the torque converter will effect how much of a grade you can be on without the vehicle rolling backward. Other vehicles acting differently on the same hill doesn't necessarily mean anything is wrong with your vehicle. The point at which the vehicle rolls is a function of engine torque at idle, converter design, vehicle weight, brake drag, etc. The real test of whether or not something is wrong with your vehicle would be to get the same vehicle equipped the same way and try it on the same hill. If your dealer really believes nothing is wrong, see if he will take a truck just like yours off the lot and drive down to that hill with you. It's the only way to know for sure.

  5. Can a transmission go out without any warning?

This can and does happen. I speak with people all the time that drove right into a parking space or even their garage with no sign of trouble and when they went to use the vehicle again the transmission had problems. This can be because it is easier for a transmission to stay in gear once it is in gear than it is for it to go into gear initially. So while it is in gear it works fine, but once it is turned off it can't get back in gear. Sometimes heat is also a factor in these sorts of failures. It may work when everything is warmed up, and not when cold, but since it won't move you aren't able to get the transmission warm enough to start working again. Also, if you have a bind condition in the transmission it can cause something to break while you are downshifting to come to a stop. If this stop happens to be someplace you are staying for a while, it makes it seem like your transmission failed while you were parked.

You have the 4R70W transmission. Please note that AODE and 4R70W are used almost interchangeably on our website. The only real difference between the two are the gear ratios, and most of the parts we sell will work for both unless otherwise stated.

No leaks anywhere, but o/d off light is still flashing and still slips in overdrive/drive gear. Can you please tell me whats going on. Thanks.

Your OD light is flashing because the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) has detected a problem with the transmission. The slippage in fourth gear is likely causing the code to be set. You should have you PCM scanned to see what transmission code is present. The code will help direct the technicians to the problem.

  8. What would happen if I installed the wrong filter kit in my transmission, and please tell me this is the reason that it is not shifting correctly...Thanks.

This would depend on the type of transmission and what filter was put in it, but if you put in a filter that allowed the front pump in the transmission to get air along with the fluid this could cause a number of problems. If the filter does not seal correctly at the valve body air could get in at that point. Also, if the pickup on the filter is not reaching the fluid level during operation air could be picked up from the bottom of the filter. You sould also insure that the fluid is at the proper level by using the manufacturer's recommended procedure. Usually transmission fluid is checked while the transmission is at operating temperature and the vehicle is idling in park.

  9. I have a 97 ford 150 truck 4x4 auto trans after you drive for a while the push button overdrive on and off switch starts blinking off continusously. what could cause this.

The reason for the blinking OD Off light is that the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) has detected a problem with the transmission. Have the computer scanned to see what stored codes are present. Once you know what fault the computer has indicated feel free to contact me for advice on how to procede.

  10. HOW DO YOU TELL IF THE TRANSMISSION IS A E4OD OR A4R70W? THERE IS A (U) UNDER TRANS ON THE TRUCK SAFETY COMPLIANCE CERTIFICATION LABEL. THANKS

The code U is for the 4R70W transmission. Also, the 4R70W has a 14 bolt transmission pan and the E4OD has 20.
