RK-AODE/-2 Valve Body Kit     List of Categories

  1. My transmission recently started slipping (shifting late, early, not upshifting, etc.) will your valve body kit fix it?

  2. Will your AODE valve body ReCalibration kit change the shift points on my AODE, AODE/W, or 4R70W transmission?

  3. What year AODEs will your RK-AODE and RK-AODE-2 Valve Body ReCalibration kits work on?

  4. What are the differences in your RK-AODE kit for the 1992-1995 transmission, and your RK-AODE-2 kit for the 1996-2000 transmission?

  5. I was wondering what parts were included in this kit. Specifically, I was wondering about any replacement springs, accumulator pistons, etc. that are included or would be recommended for purchase on a tranny with 100k+ miles?

  6. I'm confused regarding the use of an RK-AODE-2 on my 2001 Mustang GT. One reference in your FAQ mentions that "All" 1996-2004 Mustangs use the AODE-4R70W - and in two other places it refers to the kit fitting only 1996-2000 transmissions. Please clarify. ___ example ___ i would like to install a shift kit in my 2000 mustang gt. could you tell me if i have an 'aod' or an 'aode'. What kit would you reccomend, and what is the cost? You have the AODE, or more appropriately the 4R70W. Ford's current term for the transmission in your 2000 Mustang is 4R70W. All 1996-2004 automatic transmission equipped Mustangs use the 4R70W regardless of the engine type. You would need the RK-AODE-2 valve body recalibration kit. ___ second example ___ The RK-AODE-2 Valve Body ReCalibration kit will work on 1996-2000 AODE/W and 4R70W transmissions.

  1. My transmission recently started slipping (shifting late, early, not upshifting, etc.) will your valve body kit fix it?

The valve body kit is intended to change the behavior of a properly functioning transmission, and cannot cure recently developed problems. Recently developed problems are generally the result of wear, and the valve body kit will not correct it. If you have recently purchased your vehicle, and are unsure if the behavior is normal, please contact us and we will be happy to help you determine if you have a transmission problem, or if your transmission is operating as the factory intended.

  2. Will your AODE valve body ReCalibration kit change the shift points on my AODE, AODE/W, or 4R70W transmission?

While installing our kit will make the shifts complete quicker, and improve transmission durability, the shift points will not be changed. The shift points on these transmissions are controlled by the computer, and cannot be changed reliably with valve body modifications.

  3. What year AODEs will your RK-AODE and RK-AODE-2 Valve Body ReCalibration kits work on?

The RK-AODE Valve Body ReCalibration kit will work on 1992-1995 AODE, AODE/W, and 4R70W transmissions.
The RK-AODE-2 Valve Body ReCalibration kit will work on 1996-2000 AODE/W and 4R70W transmissions.

  4. What are the differences in your RK-AODE kit for the 1992-1995 transmission, and your RK-AODE-2 kit for the 1996-2000 transmission?

In 1996 Ford changed the valve body gaskets, and redesigned the pressure regulator valve. The RK-AODE-2 kit comes with the proper gaskets for the 1996 and later valve bodies, and includes a replacement pressure regulator valve. The replacement valve has been modified to increase line pressure while maintaining proper metering of the torque converter circuit.

  5. I was wondering what parts were included in this kit. Specifically, I was wondering about any replacement springs, accumulator pistons, etc. that are included or would be recommended for purchase on a tranny with 100k+ miles?

The minimum extra parts that I would suggest purchasing in addition to the valve body kit would be the 1-2 and 2-3 Accumulators, and a new filter. Everything else normally required is included in the kit.

The only other normal wear items that you will have access to while you have the valve body removed are the transmission solenoids (shift, converter clutch, and Electronic Pressure Control). You may want to replace these while you have the valve body out.

As a final note, sometimes the factory lower 1-2 Accumulator spring is broken. If this happens it usually results in an excessively harsh 1-2 shift. If your transmission has developed a harsh 1-2 shift you may want to consider having a factory lower 1-2 accumulator spring available before starting your install.

  6. I'm confused regarding the use of an RK-AODE-2 on my 2001 Mustang GT. All 1996 to 2004 mustangs are equipped with the 4R70W, however Ford made some changes to the valve bodies in some 2001 and later models, which become standard to all models by 2003. We are currently modifying our kit to work with 2000 - 2004 4R70W transmissions. We are planning to release the 01-04 kit by 11-15-2005.
