  1. What year was the E4OD introduced?

    The E4OD was first introduced in 1989.

  2. What bolt patterns did the E4OD come in?

    Over the years, the E4OD has been made with the small block, big block(385 series, NOT FE), diesel, and modular bolt pattern.

  3. What are the gear ratios of the E4OD Transmission?

    1st = 2.71
    2nd = 1.538
    3rd = 1
    4th = .712

  4. Will the E4OD transmission drive a cable drive speedometer?

    Not all E4OD transmissions come with the gear machined into the output shaft to drive a cable drive speedometer. In 1992 Ford started using the differential speed sensor to run the electronic speedometer in the trucks, and omitted the drive gear from the output shaft. Transmissions without the gear can have the output shaft changed, but complete transmission disassembly is required since the output shaft is in the back, and the transmission disassembles from the front.

  5. Can I put an E4OD in my car?

    The E4OD is a very large transmission, and would require extensive modifications to the floorpans to fit in most cars. It would also hang very low once installed unless you were willing to increase the height of the engine and the transmission by approximately 3 inches. For an Automatic Overdrive transmission for your car check out the AOD, AODE, and 4R70W.

  6. I have a 1983 f100 with a 400m. will the e4od fit.

    The 400M has the same bolt pattern as the 429 and 460 Big Block Engine. The E4OD that would bolt to your engine would be from the 1989 and up Ford trucks with the 460 engine. Not all 1989 and up Ford trucks with the 460 have an E4OD, some still have the C6. If it has the E4OD there will be an OD cancel switch on the dash or on the shifter. These transmissions are electronically controlled, so you will also need our Baumannator TCS™ transmission controller.

  7. i have a 91 f250 with a 351w the tranny went so i got one from a 92 bronco with a 351w now my engine wont run right what can i do to fix it?

    The only difference between the 1991 and 1992 transmissions in most cases is that the 1992 transmission does not have the speed sensor drive gear teeth machined into the output shaft. The hole for the speed sensor will still be there, but the teeth that drive it are not. If your original transmission has been replaced with one that doesn't drive the speed sensor you would have quite a few problems with your transmission shifting, but few if any engine problems. You may have another problem, or a pinched wire in your transmission harness that is causing a problem with the engine.

  8. Will the controller allow me to disable the converter lockup while offroading

    Yes, you can program the controller to never turn on the converter clutch if you want to.

    The AOD is a much weaker transmission than the E4OD. You would also have engine driveability problems from disconnecting the transmission from the Powertrain Control Module. Have an E4OD built using the upgraded hard parts like the ones listed in our E4OD product section.

  10. Where is the best place to purchase a new 1994 ECC for my newly rebuilt trans...thanks tim

    I would try the Ford Dealer or your local parts store. I can't imagine you would actually find a new one, but a good remanufactured one should be fine. Also if you have a diesel truck you could easily replace your computer with our Baumanntor TCS programable transmission controller.
